Common questions
Do you work with clients in Germany remotely?
Yes. I am based in Albania and work remotely across every market on this site. The practical constraint worth checking before scoping anything time-sensitive is working-hour overlap, not capability.
What language should a brand use in Germany?
German, and the expectation of German is close to absolute in consumer advertising. Formal address (Sie) remains the default in B2B; the informal du has become normal in startup and DTC contexts, and choosing between them is a positioning decision rather than a style preference. English-only campaigns underperform badly outside Berlin tech circles.
What advertising rules apply in Germany?
The Gesetz gegen den unlauteren Wettbewerb (UWG) governs unfair competition, and the Deutscher Werberat handles self-regulation. What makes Germany genuinely distinctive is the Abmahnung — a formal cease-and-desist warning that competitors and qualified associations can issue directly, with costs attached, without going to court first. Missing influencer labelling, an incomplete Impressum or an unsupported comparative claim can produce a bill from a competitor rather than a regulator.
How does invoicing work for a client in Germany?
Standard EU reverse charge for B2B, with the client’s USt-IdNr confirmed via VIES before invoicing. Payment terms are respected but paperwork is exacting — an invoice missing a required field will be returned rather than queried. For B2B services sold cross-border inside the EU the reverse charge applies (Article 44 of the VAT Directive): the invoice is issued without VAT and the client self-accounts for it under their own VAT number. A valid VIES-registered VAT number on both sides is what makes that work, so it gets confirmed before the engagement starts rather than at invoicing.
Which platforms should a brand in Germany prioritise?
LinkedIn now leads B2B, having overtaken the home-grown XING. Instagram and TikTok dominate consumer attention, and WhatsApp is near-universal. YouTube is unusually strong as a research and long-form channel. German audiences are notably resistant to hard-sell formats that work elsewhere.
How much does brand work for a German business cost?
Every engagement is scoped individually, because the work depends on where a brand already is rather than on a package tier. Pricing is agreed in writing before anything starts, and I will tell you if what you need is smaller than what you asked for.
